Our Main Theme Today Is Life.

Life for humanity in this world is a testament to all intelligent and thoughtful people.  We are sent here on earth to serve the Lord, not to act on our own will.  In this world we have to work hard for the hereafter, it is not just a place to enjoy ourselves, which leads us to forget what we have come to seek.

Let’s look at the breath that the Lord has given us, 2 ears to hear, 2 eyes to see, 2 hands to carry, 2 legs to walk, all the Lord has given us.  So can we imagine life without them?  A little example is the breathing we are taking, today if one of us has a condition that it is not possible to breathe on his own unless he is put on oxygen, all his family members will wake up knowing that  the disease is severe.  The oxygen that is discharged to the sick is not provided free of charge by the hospital, they are paid hourly or daily, but the grace of our Lord gives us breath from birth to death.

It reminded me of an elder here in a Nigerian hospital who was so ill that he was taken to hospital and put on oxygen for one day, in God’s power he recovered.  Doctors gave him a prescription and a list of bills to pay for the hospital, including the cost of his oxygen, and when he heard about this, the old man burst into tears, and his kids started saying “Don’t worry we can pay the bills.”  , the elder breathed and looked at them and said, “Please let me cry, my little ones. I am crying because I remember that I have been breathing since birth and have never paid the Lord for the mercy He had given me.”

Well, my brothers and sisters, hope this little example is enough for us to understand.

DO NOT BE A MIMICKER

Do not transform yourself in to someone else: do not mimic others. Many are those that feign to forget their own voices, movements, idiosyncrasies, and habits, in order to imitate others in their ways. Among the consequences of such behavior are artificiality, unhappiness, and a destruction of one’s own entity.

From Adam to the last born baby, no two people are exactly the same in appearance. Why then should they be the same in mannerisms and tastes?.

You are unique- none have been like you in the past and none shall be like you in the future.

LIVE TODAY FREE FROM SORROW, BOTHER, ANGER, JEALOUSY, AND MALICE.

You must engrave onto your heart one phrase: Today is my day. If you have eaten warm, fresh bread today, then what do yesterday’s dry, rotten bread and tomorrow’s anticipated bread matter?.

If you are truthful with yourself and have a firm, solid resolve, you will undoubtedly convince yourself of the following: Today is my last day to live. When you attain this attitude, you will profit from every moment of your day, by developing your personality, expanding your abilities, and purifying your deeds. Then you say to yourself: Today I shall be refined in my speech and will utter neither evil nor obscenity. Moreover, I shall not backbite.

Today I will be particular about my bodily cleanliness and appearance. I will be meticulous in my neatness and balanced in my walk, talk, and actions.

TODAY IS ALL THAT YOU HAVE.

When you wake up in the morning do not expect to see the evening-live as though today is all that you have. Yesterday has passed with its good and evil, while tomorrow has not yet arrived. Your life’s span is but one day, as if you were born in it and will die at the end of it. With this attitude, you will not be caught between an obsession over the past, with all its anxieties, and the hopes of future, with all its uncertainty. For today only should you expend energies, concerns, and efforts. In this day you should pray with a wakeful heart, recite the qur’an with understanding, and remember Allah with your allotted portion, concerned with your appearance and health.

Organize the hours of this day, so that you make years out of minutes and months out of seconds. Seek forgiveness from your Lord, remember Him, prepare for the final parting from this world, and live today happily and at peace. Be content with your sustenance, your wife, your children, your work, your house and your station in life.
